Philadelphia is the 6th most-populous city in the US with high number of people of African-American descent. The city has played host to numerous cultural events that aim at making better ties between persons of the races and fostering cultural understanding across the races. African-American events venues and resource centers
- African American Museum in Philadelphia was initially built to interpret life and works of African Americans. It's open from Tuesday to Saturday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Sundays from noon to 5.00pm.
- African American Chamber of Commerce is involved in organizing legal conventions for African-Americans
- Philadelphia Tribune is a publication that highlights on issues facing African-Americans and contains list of upcoming events.
- Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress maintains calendar of such events in the entire area
Some of the upcoming African American events
In October, film screening of Inside Buffalo on the 6th. The film features the first African-American president Barrack Obama. Quest for freedom: Live & Learn showcases on October 23rd. On December 20th are the Kwanzaa African Celebrations throughout Philadelphia where traditional performances will be featured.
