The African American Museum In Philadelphia

The African American Museum in Philadelphia is significant for being the first museum sponsored and built by a United States municipality where the life and heritage of the Afro-Americans are documented. During the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976 the museum doors were opened for the first public visits. The AAMP features more than 750,000 artifacts, documents and images pertaining to the life and work of the Afro American people.
