Philadelphia is the sixth largest city in the United States. It has many daily newspapers like the "Philadelphia Inquirer", "Philadelphia Daily News", "The Philadelphia Bulletin" and the "Metro". Metro, a free daily was begun on Jan 24, 2000 by the TPI Metro publishing house. There is healthy rivalry between Metro and Philadelphia Daily news.
Metro has been in the news since its arrival way back in 2000. This news paper increased the competition among the already there newspapers. A contract was signed with SEPTA for five years which allowed them to produced one page in every edition.
Also, Metro had a pay a monthly allowance of $45000 to SEPTA which it stopped paying later in March, 2003. Since it is a free newspaper its distribution is very easy. Newspaper guys sit with this edition as a place with high number of people coming and going. These are also found in trains, buses, libraries, subways and receptions. These are very eye- catching as they are printed in colored font of orange and green.
This newspaper is designed using the latest software called "Apple Macintosh". Metro newspaper is also available in New York and Boston run by the same publishing firm. Metro International- the firm is based in London, UK.
The newspaper is highly popular among the youth of the city because of its editorial section and tips column on various teenage issues like health, relationships, exams etc.
