
Academy of Music in Philadelphia - Paving the Way to a Glamorous Music Career
Philadelphia boasts of a number of wonderful sightseeing attractions. From theme parks to gardens, museums and theaters, there is something for everyone. There are a large number of theaters and halls. One among the most notable halls is the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. It is a famous concert hall and the oldest opera house in the United States. It is also known as the American Academy of Music or more popularly called as the 'Grand Old Lady of Broad Street'.
The Pennsylvania Ballet and the Opera Company of Philadelphia also hosted their performances at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. This venue was home to Philadelphia Orchestra for over 100 years till it moved to the new Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The Academy has been in existence since 1857, home to most notable performers and composers. This venue has played host to concerts and music shows and also hosted a large number of American work in the standard classical collection. This concert hall was selected as a National Historic Landmark in 1962.
The Flying Dutchman, Gounod's Faust, Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos and Wagner's are some of the most notable works that had their American premiers at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.
Several renowned artists as well as great music stars such as Enrico Caruso, Maria Callas, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Vladimir Horowitz, Gustav Mahler, Anna Pavlova, Luciano Pavarotti, Marian Anderson, Aaron Copland, Leontyne Price, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Isaac Stern, Igor Stravinsky, Joan Sutherland and Richard Strauss among many others have performed at this venue.
