History of the site

Edgar Allan Poe lived in the home for one year although he lived in Philadelphia for a period of 6 years. It's while in the home, that he wrote most of his famous literal pieces. The site was, however, authorized in 1978 when it officially became open to public. There are various activities that are conducted at the site including audiovisual presentations and ranger-guided tours. The tours usually have a limit of 25 people. Most of those touring the site are usually school children or general group visitors.

The site is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and on public holidays.
