The Historical Society of Pennsylvania was founded in the year 1824. It is one of the oldest of its kind in America and holds many relics from the past. The building had been designed by Addison Hutton and has over 600,000 printed and over 19 million graphic and manuscript items.
The building holds the best legacies of Pennsylvania from the 17th to the 19th century. In the year 2009, the ownership was transferred to Atwater Kent Museum.
Among the treasures that the museum holds is the first U.S. constitution draft, the original proof of the Declaration of Independence, and the first ever photographed American. Accounts and diaries of various individuals and organizations that date back to the days of wars are housed here. The museum also holds century's old paintings, posters, maps, genealogical resources and various other similar materials.
