Logan Square Philadelphia

Logan Square aka Logan Circle was one of the five original squares in the initial plan of Philadelphia in the sixteen hundreds. The square has a history of being used for public executions and as a burial ground. It was redesigned as a traffic circle as part of a project to link the administrative district with Fairmount Park. The original planners of the square wanted to keep a tall monument similar to The Obelisk in Paris but ended up constructing a big fountain to honor the founder of the Philadelphia Fountain society Dr. Wilson Swann. Now it is known as The Swann Memorial. Even though the fountain is marvelous to look at, the approach is quite difficult as there is no proper way to reach the memorial and people have to run across lanes of fast moving traffic to get there.
