A Basic Intro of All Public Schools in the School District of Philadelphia
One could say that the school district of Philadelphia is like an Education Center in itself. You will find several reputed schools in this region of the city. If you want to join your kids in any school, you can do some nice sneaking and snooping at the school district.
There are about three hundred and forty public and charter schools at the school district and more than two hundred thousand students attend the pre-schools, elementary, middle, high school or vocational schools every day. All the public schools of Philadelphia are governed by The School Board, which is an ancient establishment in itself and has some highly qualified personnel to look into the working of all the public schools at Philly.
You will find that the students here hail from various descendants, with the African Americans being the dominant ones, followed by Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian and Native Americans. All the public schools provide transportation, which is absolutely free for all eligible students, while the others can get tokens at subsidized rates. About three forth of the students are also eligible for the free food services that include breakfast and lunch.
All these proceedings are carried by the respective superintendents; there are about eleven of them in Philadelphia, each being responsible for the schools in that particular region. Overall, the school district is run by a School Reform Commission and other distinctive personnel in various leadership roles. However, the Court of Common Pleas and the city mayor keep a close watch on the board and schools to ensure that students' future is safe and sound.
