Independence Seaport Museum

Though many of you may remember it as the Maritime Museum, the Independence Seaport Museum housed in the Penn's Landing Complex in Philadelphia and is dedicated wholly to the Maritime History of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Delaware Valley.

Open all seven days of the week from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening, the museum is a must visit site in the list of things to do on a Philadelphia travel. For the tourist, there are a lot of arrangements of lodging and food in the vicinity of the museum and that is what makes the place even more attractive to the visitor.

Once you buy a regular adult ticket of $12, or a $10 for seniors, you not only get admission to the galleries and workshop of the Independence Seaport Museum but also get the opportunity to be aboard the Spanish American War Cruiser and also a World War II Submarine, the Becuna.

However, owing to the unique variety of exhibits, both permanent and temporary ones, housed in the museum is what sets it apart from other museums all over the world. All year round, the museum has few of the most marvelous artifacts and items that tell you a lot about the maritime history, from boat building to trade with china. The new exhibits are equally appealing with introductions like Black Hands, Blue Seas which tell us about the contribution of African Americans in the development of maritime activities, or the unique and somewhat bizarre exhibit about the various types of tattoos sported by sailors in the days gone by and the mysteries, and traditions associated with each one of them. If you can't actually make a Philadelphia PA travel plan, you needn't feel disappointed as the museum has a section of online exhibit too!
