
Philadelphia Museums of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums of the United States and is known locally as the 'The Art Museum'. Each year, 15 to 20 special exhibitions are held in this museum and is visited by around 80,000 people.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art not only includes its iconic main building, but also several other historic sites including the Rodin Museum. The newly acquired Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building opened in 2007 and houses some of the popular collections of the museum, for public display.
Overview of the museum collections
The Philadelphia Museums of Art houses over 225,000 objects which highlight the creative achievements of Asia and the Western World. The Asian collection of the museum include sculptures and paintings from China, India and Japan, major collections of Japanese, Korean and Chinese ceramics, large group of Turkish and Persian carpets and various authentic and rare architectural assemblages.
The European collection of the museum include early Renaissance masterworks, European paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, furniture, tapestries, a collection of arms and armor, period rooms and architectural settings.
The museum's American collections include 3 centuries of sculpture, painting and decorative arts, 18 and 19th century furniture and silver of Philadelphia and furniture and ceramics of rural Pennsylvania.
Location
The museum is located at the Benjamin Franklin Parkways', west end in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
Museum hours and rate
You can visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art during your Philedelphia travel, between 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. The price of admission at the museum is $ 14 for adults, $ 12 for seniors of ages 62 and above, $ 10 for students with ID and youth between the ages 13 to 18, and free for children below 12 years. On Sundays you can pay what you wish.
