The Barnes Foundation

In the suburbs of Philadelphia particularly the Lower Merion Township, there is a prominent institution for art education known as the Barnes Foundation. It can be found right behind the St. Joseph's University campus in City Avenue. The name was taken from its creator who was Albert Barnes. He founded the institution in the year 1922. He realized that there is a need for this when he started collecting artworks. If you are an art lover just like Barnes, you will surely find this place interesting as you make your Philidelphia travel happen.

Nowadays, the Barnes Foundation boasts a huge collection of different art pieces including more than 2000 historical objects. The paintings here are said to be worth more than two billion dollars. Among the collections here are the works by Pierre Augusta Renoir, Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse.

Things went downhill for the foundation however somewhere during the 1990s. This was due to the financial crisis that the group was experiencing. Another reason was that it was located in a residential neighborhood and there were some restrictions at that time that they had to take note of. Because of those difficulties, they decided to move the gallery to a place in Philadelphia known as the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. This now made way for the foundation to be accessed by the public easily.

As you travel Philadelphia, PA you will know that there are a lot of historical stories to tell including the Barnes Foundation. There are several plans for renovation for this site and many approve them but there are some financial problems. This is why there are societies that are willing to lend a hand for the betterment of this fantastic tourist attraction.
